NORTHBROOK, Ill. -- The Allstate Corp. announced Thursday that its catastrophic losses for June totaled $440 million and $820 million for the second quarter, both before tax.
The insurance company said the losses were due to 30 events during the quarter but four events accounted for over half the estimated loss for the period. It does not disclose specific events.
Allstate recently began releasing month and quarter-to-date catastrophe losses when the monthly estimate exceeds $150 million. The Northbrook, Ill. based company is the nation's largest publicly held personal lines insurer, serving approximately 16 million households
Shares rose 42 cents to $34.65 in midday trading.
