Employee Engagement Drives Firm’s Commitment and Progress
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (NYSE: MMC), a global team of
professional services companies offering clients advice and solutions in
risk, strategy and human capital, today announced the release of its 2011
Corporate Citizenship Update, a brief overview of the Company's
global corporate citizenship accomplishments. The 2011 update follows
the Company’s first comprehensive report on its 2010
corporate citizenship achievements issued last year. The 2011 update
also outlines goals for 2012, which include continuing efforts in
driving environmental sustainability, new programs that encourage
community involvement, and building on the Company’s diversity and
inclusion strategy.
Highlights from the 2011 update include:
-
Recognition for the Company’s carbon reduction and reporting efforts,
by being named to the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP) 2011 Carbon
Disclosure Leadership Index and being awarded the prestigious Carbon
Trust Standard across its core U.K. offices.
-
A greener real estate portfolio that includes multiple LEED-certified
facilities and progress toward a more environmentally conscious work
environment, while sustaining a real estate portfolio reduction of
6.26% in 2011.
-
Significantly increased participation in U.S. employee volunteering,
which is focused primarily through national partnerships with the
American Red Cross, Peace First, iMentor, Securities Industry and
Financial Markets Association, StreetWise Partners, Tuesday’s Children
and Volunteer Consulting Group.
-
Diversity and inclusion initiatives such as expansion of the Company’s
Employee Resource Groups, implementation of “Diversity Leadership
Dialogues” with senior leadership and external outreach with
organizations such as The Executive Leadership Council and the
Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
“We are proud of our efforts toward being an environmentally conscious
workplace, connecting with our communities through volunteering and pro
bono services, and fostering a high-performing, inclusive work
environment,” said Brian Duperreault, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies. “This update reflects our
continued commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and the
ongoing progress made by our Company and colleagues on these
initiatives.”

In 2011, the Company took a major step toward a more unified, global
approach to corporate social responsibility, refocusing its strategy to
emphasize education as a key component of its commitment to helping
communities and people at risk. The year also saw the development of a
broader range of integrated client services and products, as well as
intellectual capital related to sustainability. For example, the firm’s
Board-level Corporate Responsibility Committee, chaired by Director
Adele Simmons and formed in 2008 to oversee the Company’s
responsibilities and activities as a corporate citizen, established a
cross-Operating Company taskforce to explore climate change risk-related
business opportunities.
Marsh & McLennan Companies will publish a fuller report in 2013
detailing its corporate citizenship activities in 2012 as part of a
two-year cycle of producing comprehensive reports alternating with brief
updates.
