DentalInsurance.com Addresses Health Care Reform: More Dental Plan Choices for Individuals, Better Pediatric Oral Benefits for Kids

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 12, 2012

DentalInsurance.com, a leading innovator and provider of dental insurance and discount dental plans to individuals and employers, commented today on some expected benefits of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) for consumers. “For many people, including individual consumers and kids in general, the Supreme Court’s recent decision is a good reason to smile,” said Avery Smith, Director of Business Development, DentalInsurance.com.

For Kids: The Pediatric Oral Benefit

When it comes to dental coverage options, perhaps the largest group to benefit from the PPACA will be kids. The Pediatric Oral Benefit mandates that state insurance exchanges provide a dental benefit for kids.

While the details are still coming into focus, PPACA calls for a rich set of benefits for kids including orthodontia and other oral care benefits – none of which are required currently. Ideally, state insurance exchanges will allow consumers to shop for dental insurance separately (rather than merely bundled into general health plans) to maintain and increase customer choice and flexibility.

For Individuals: Improved Dental Coverage Choices

Under PPACA, state exchanges will introduce additional options for consumers and increased competition among suppliers. Currently, 98% of dental insurance is purchased though employee group plans. To prepare for the changes coming in 2014, insurers are busily creating more diverse and competitive individual dental insurance options for people who are self-employed and those who work in small businesses not required by PPACA to provide group coverage.

Over the next 5 years, the dental industry is expected to see a number of improvements related to more competition for consumers among dental care and coverage providers. In addition to better dental care insurance coverage options, the benefits for consumers are expected to grow.

To attract consumers motivated by value, new forms of service delivery (such as dental management companies) will continue to spread. Customer service initiatives aimed at improving service delivery and quality, including improved digital and mobile communications tools, will continue to be developed.

“Since 2001, DentalInsurance.com has operated as an online exchange for individuals interested in dental insurance and discount protection,” Smith said. “During this time of rapid industry change, we remain committed to extending consumers’ dental health care choices and dental insurance coverage for children.”

"As a leading innovator and provider of online dental insurance shopping experiences, DentalInsurance.com is committed to continuing to deliver superior services to dental insurance consumers, and we look forward to helping provide a transparent dental insurance exchange."
