Online travel insurance company: Cheap.co.uk has advised that the travel insurance section of their site is performing well and that UK travellers still appear to be heading abroad.

With the Olympic Games due to start on the 27th July 2012 and the current Euro crisis it is cited on many press sites that a number of UK travellers will stay at home this year to either attend or watch the games or just simply to save money. Travel insurance quote data provided from the Cheap.co.uk website appears to show otherwise with the number of quotes and confirmed policies being close to that taken out last June.

A spokesmen for Cheap.co.uk commented: “2012 appeared to be the year to stay at home, even championing the Scottish Ski Staycation at the beginning of the year. We believed that skiers often overlooked the bonuses of skiing in Scotland, instead heading for one of Europe’s Ski hotspots such as La Plagne in France or Kiruna in Sweden. Understandably, the vast reputations that some of these European ski sites have draws vast tourist numbers in but Scotland really has a lot to offer and not just in the value for money front. Whilst we believe our efforts were well received by the Scottish resorts we were a little surprised that travel insurance quotes this year had matched that seen last June for the same period of time.”
