Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) April 10, 2012

Examination Management Services, Inc. (EMSI), the market leader in medical information, risk management and investigative services, announces it will be providing in-home health assessments, data collection and medical record retrieval services for Battelle Memorial Institute in support of a five-year observational study of childhood obesity in the US that began in 2010.

The NIH study will be designed and conducted by a team of national experts assembled by Battelle’s Health and Life Sciences Global Business division. Battelle is the primary contractor working on behalf of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The scope of the research includes assessing and identifying aspects of community programs and policies that reduce the risk of childhood obesity.

“This type of large national research study is well suited to our strengths and experience,” said Susan Gilmartin, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Employer Services, Healthcare Services Division. “Our role will be to conduct in-home interviews to collect necessary baseline and follow-up data and perform the medical record and health history information retrieval in accordance with the study protocol.”

“Primarily, EMSI was selected for this study for their track record in providing mobile data collection services for large volume studies,” said Dr. Howard Fishbein, Battelle’s principal investigator for the study. “But also important to our research team was partnering with an organization that has demonstrated expertise in tracking, storing and making collected medical and health information easily accessible and, most critically, presented and organized in a manner useful to our investigators and teams.”

The study will be conducted in 279 communities across the country with over 21,000 children (ages 3-15) and their parents participating. Over the course of the 3 1/2 years remaining in the study, EMSI expects to conduct more than 21,000 home visits and handle over 15,000 records.
