First Dental Health announced it is removing the dental affordability barrier for seniors.

According to a release, New Dental Choice, a nationwide discount dental plan offered by First Dental Health, provides seniors with savings of 25 to 60 percent on all dental services. Anyone can become a member of New Dental Choice. There are no age limits, no deductibles, no high premiums or coinsurance, and no waiting periods.

"Seniors and retirees who cannot afford dental insurance are less likely to go to the dentist, which increases their risk of developing other health problems," said Cecilia Cresto, Vice President of Sales at First Dental Health. Cresto acknowledges that older consumers are largely aware of the relationship between healthy oral wellness habits, such as brushing, flossing, regular dental visits, and the connection to overall health. "As we age, the correlation between oral health and potentially catastrophic issues, such as heart disease, diabetes and periodontal disease, increases. The issue remains that seniors and retirees may forgo these services due to the high cost generally associated with dental care. First Dental Health has focused on providing seniors with a means to receive more affordable care through New Dental Choice."

Today, while the majority of seniors have access to health care through plans affiliated with Medicare, most have few options for dental care. In addition, the largest senior association in America has failed to recognize that not all seniors can afford to pay high monthly premiums for a plan that makes little financial sense.

First Dental reported that New Dental Choice discloses dental provider discounts prior to treatment so seniors can budget for care in advance. There are no unexpected fees and no service exclusions. Restorative and other major dental care such as crowns, dentures and periodontal therapy are available on a discounted basis, without any waiting periods or limitations.
