SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Extend Health, Inc., which operates the largest private Medicare exchange in the country, today announced that Wellesley, Massachusetts-based Harvard Pilgrim Health Care has joined the exchange, bringing the number of carriers to 67 and the number of Medicare supplemental plans to more than 3,500.

Harvard Pilgrim serves more than one million members in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Now included in the Extend Health exchange – and available during the current Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, which runs from November 15-December 31, 2010 – are new Harvard Pilgrim standard Medicare supplemental insurance plans for individual Medicare beneficiaries. The plans are available now, with effective dates beginning in January 2011.

According to Martha Murphy, Director for Sales of Harvard Pilgrim, “We are committed to offering seniors in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine Medicare supplemental plans that meet their needs and more convenient ways for them to make decisions about which plans are right for them. Extend Health is not only largest private Medicare exchange, the company also is dedicated to providing its customers with the ongoing advocacy and service they have earned.”

Said Bryce Williams, CEO of Extend Health, “We built our exchange to serve retirees of some of the country’s largest employers – including Ford, Caterpillar, Union Pacific and Eastman Chemical. These companies insist that we offer a wide choice of plans at competitive prices, and have empowered us to invite only the best insurance carriers into our exchange. Harvard Pilgrim certainly fits that description.”

Extend Health is the only place where seniors can compare thousands of plans side by side and find a plan that best meets their needs at a price they can afford. Since 2006, Extend Health has helped hundreds of thousands of seniors with a 92% satisfaction rate.
