DALLAS — October 13, 2009   - International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI) is pleased to offer a complimentary e-book, Risk Management—How and Why, that introduces the reader to the risk management process using an interesting case study involving a fire at a hypothetical garage and apartment complex. Written by George Head, a pioneer in risk management education, this high quality, 70-page e-book is available on www.IRMI.com/Online at no charge.

Risk Management—How and Why serves as a concise overview of the risk management function and processes, allowing risk managers to provide a valuable primer to their organization’s management. Any risk and insurance professional may hyperlink from a Web site to the e-book, or print it and give to others. Insurance agents and brokers will find value in sharing this e-book with their clients and prospects.

“Over the years, we had many requests for a basic risk management primer that would be a relatively fast and easy read for all business professionals, and we are excited about making Risk Management—How and Why available to meet this need,” said Jack P. Gibson, IRMI president. “It is also an honor to publish the last book written by George Head prior to his retirement from risk and insurance education.”

Dr. Head was a risk management educator from the time he graduated in 1967 with a doctorate in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania until he decided to put down his pen in July 2008. For much of his career he was with the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters in suburban Philadelphia. While there, he developed and maintained the curriculum and examinations for the Institute's professional designation programs in risk management and safety, earning career recognition awards from the American Risk and Insurance Association, the Risk and Insurance Management Society, the Public Risk Management Association, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Institute of Risk Management (British) and the International Insurance Society. After retiring in 2000 as a Director Emeritus of the American Institute, Dr. Head continued to write and advise on risk management matters. In July 2008, he officially retired from risk management and insurance to pursue the study of theology.
